Unlimited data making a comeback?

For most of the years since, mobile industry executives have explained that unlimited plans just don’t make economic sense for the carriers, especially as simply surfing the Internet has expanded into all manner of apps, realtime driving directions, streaming music and video, and online games. Carriers, as they explain over and over again, own a limited amount of spectrum, or airwave licenses, thus limiting capacity for customer data usage.
But slowly unlimited plans have been coming back, and this week they nearly took over the entire scene. Both T-Mobile  TMUS -1.51%  and Sprint  S -1.50% introduced new, cheaper-than-ever unlimited data plans. T-Mobile’s new plan started at $70 for one line and went up to $160 for four lines. A prior unlimited plan ranged from $95 for an individual customer to $280 for four lines. Sprint went even lower, offering its unlimited plan for $60 to $160. Its old unlimited plan started at $75.
And both carriers said they intended to phase out the remainder of their data-limited plans sooner or later (T-Mobile said it would start next month for new customers, while Sprint wasn’t as specific).

T-mobile finally gets Marshmallow for Galaxy Note 4

T-Mobile is now updating the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, a phone that many refer to as the best phablet of 2014, to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Once you've installed the update on your phablet, the Note 4 will be running software version N910TUVU2EPE3. Note that the update measures 1.5GB in size, and you'll be forced to download it over a Wi-Fi connection.

The new software update includes all of the usual Marshmallow goodies such as granular (individual) app permissions, the new battery-saving Dose mode, as well as Google Now on Tap. The update will also get rid of Instagram and WhatsApp as preinstalled app, introduces an advanced power saving mode, and adds a "vibration pattern concept".

T-Mobile adds Samsung Galaxy On5 phone and Galaxy Tab E to its lineup

T-Mobile and Samsung paired up on Wednesday to launch two new budget devices to the carrier's lineup, the Galaxy On5 smartphone and the Galaxy Tab E tablet.

Galaxy On5 phone

Joining the lineup is Samsung's Galaxy On5 phone, which is coming to both T-Mobile and its prepaid brand, MetroPCS. Meant for simple use and keeping costs low, it comes in at $140 outright, or for $0 down and $5.83 a month for 24 months. On MetroPCS slightly earlier, June 27, for $129, but it will end up costing $59 after a $70 instant rebate.


Galaxy Tab E tablet

T-Mobile isn't the first to pick up the Galaxy Tab E; Verizon has had the Android 6.0 device for a few months now. The Tab E is an affordable tablet that goes on sale June 22 for $240, or for $0 down and $10 a month for 24 months on one of T-Mo's plans.
