Steve Wozniak speaks out against removal of 3.5 mm jack

Steve Wozniak's take on this design choice is that it will alienate fans of the iPhone and will lead to customer backlash. He also commented that he's no fan of wireless audio, as Bluetooth sounds flat and lifeless with the current tech, and said that advances in the field need to be made before the omission of a 3.5 mm jack is even considered as an option. He continued to lament the fact that his headphones with custom ear implants, which he enjoys very much, will now need an extra adapter attached to them to work with an iPhone. Sure, it's maybe not a huge pain to keep the adapter permanently attached to the headset's cord if all you use it with is your iPhone, but if it's a favorite set that gets plugged in a variety of your devices, having to remember to always bring that Lightning-to-headphones gizmo can get tedious.

On a slightly different note, The Woz continued to say that he is currently enjoying USB Type-C very much and that Apple should follow “the lead” of its competitors and implement it. The reasoning behind his feeling wasn't explained thoroughly, but he shared that one of his current smartphones, the Google Nexus 5X, is given “a higher level” just for having USB C.

iPhone 7 doubles storgage space

Apple may launch an iPhone 7 with 256GB of internal storage next month, which would double the maximum amount of space available on an iPhone today.

Manufacturers behind flash-based memory have "increased chip prices citing strong demand for new smartphones, particularly the iPhone 7 featuring up to 256GB," according to DigiTimes.

This would give the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as much space as the entry-level MacBook 2016. Only the largest iPad Pro 9.7 and iPad Pro 12.9 configurations have gotten to that level among currently available iDevices.

When Apple first launched the iPod, it marketed the 5GB size as a way to store 1,000 songs in your pocket – a great feat in 2001. A 256GB upgrade would be bring that number to over 50,000 songs in 2016.

Apple’s next iPhone could be waterproof

The next iPhone might be able to swim, according to leaks – but it might be kept secret.

The company is working on making its newest iPhone waterproof, according to numerous leaks. The latest suggestion is a patent granted this week for a technique that lets Apple’s mobile devices take pictures properly underwater – apparently suggesting that it is working on letting those devices go underwater safely in the first place.

It is just the latest rumour in a run of leaks about the new iPhone that seems to suggest Apple is working towards a waterproof phone. Some have suggested, for instance, that Apple will be getting rid of its headphone jack in part so that it can seal up the phone, and it is also getting rid of the traditional home button as another way of stopping the water getting in.

iPhone 7 Headphone rumors

There's still probably months to go before its launch, but the most persistent rumor about the iPhone 7 so far is that it will ditch the traditional headphone jack.

This makes a lot of sense, following the announcement in 2014 that future iOS devices will support Lightning-connected headphones: after all, why make space for two ports when one would be enough? And this could enable Apple to make the iPhone 7 thinner than any previous Apple smartphone. But it does leave headphone makers with the option of making Apple-specific Lightning models or going wireless.

With control over the connection technology, could Apple join the competition and release its own set of Lightning headphones under the Beats brand? That's what we're going to consider today.

Back in 2014, Apple revealed at its WWDC event that headphone makers could now manufacture headphones that connect to iOS devices via the Lightning port. This announcement arrived just weeks after Apple confirmed that it had acquired Beats Audio, the company behind the popular Beats headphones.

Understandably, this led to speculation that suggests that the first headphones Beats unveils under Apple's management will use the Lightning port rather than the 3.5mm audio jack.

It's believed that the Beats acquisition is mostly focused on Beats Music - the company's music streaming service. But it would make sense for Beats to be among the first companies to launch Lightning-compatible headphones now that it's owned by Apple.

The first Lightning-connecting headphones are out now, although the choice remains distinctly limited.

Samsung No 1 Mobile Phone Maker

Samsung maintained its lead as the dominant mobile-phone handset maker, helped by the release of new units, while Apple lost ground as consumers halted on purchases of iPhones.

Samsung’s market share climbed to 22.4% in the second quarter from 21.3% in the same period in 2015, according to data released by tech research group IDC. Apple’s share slipped to 11.8% from 13.9%.

At the same time, other phone makers such as Huawei, OPPO and vivo also gained market share, helped by sales in emerging markets such as in Indonesia and the Middle East.

iPhone 7 release date

If we were betting folk, we'd bet the house on the fact the iPhone 7 will launch in September 2016. Apple sticks to a schedule and the last few iPhones have all been launched in the month of September.

Oh, there's a possibility it could be earlier, as according to a 'reliable source' Apple might actually bring it to market earlier. Sadly, how much earlier is unclear and we hear this rumor every year. It never happens.

It will take a while to finish development and manufacturer of the phone, so we wouldn't expect to see it before September. Autumn is exactly when iOS 10 is due. It just makes sense for September.

New images of iPhone EarPods with Lightning cable

Another set of images has surfaced on Chinese social networking site Weibo that appears to show off the standard set of iPhone EarPods, but with a Lightning cable in place of the 3.5mm plug.

This isn't our first exposure to these purported, refreshed buds. A similar looking set surfaced in March of this year, but they look ever so slightly different.

Another report seems to indicate that these headphones, if real, would be optional and the 3.5mm jack will see another day in the next iPhone. As you can see, these rumors really are all over the place.

Will Apple wait until iPhone 8 for big changes?

Apple Inc. plans to break with its recent pattern of overhauling the design of its flagship iPhone every two years, and make only subtle changes in the models it will release this fall, according to people familiar with the matter.

Among other things, those people said, Apple’s newest phones will maintain the current 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays. Those are the sizes of the larger-display models Apple introduced in 2014, and refreshed with newer models last fall.

The biggest planned change in this year’s phones is the removal of the headphone plug, which will make the phone thinner and improve its water resistance

Apple watch 2 coming soon??

Today, the Apple Watch is 14 months old and has, very obviously, skipped its chance to get an annual refresh cycle.

So, will there be a second Watch any time soon, and for how long should we expect each generation of this product to be relevant? These are both valid questions, but, unfortunately, we've no way to know what Apple is planning for the wearable, at least not that early in the line's life. But, judging from the massive overhaul of the watchOS software that was presented at WWDC 2016, it's obvious that Apple is not to be discouraged by a slight drop in interest, and will be looking to rekindle interest towards its wearable once again.

iPhone 7 to have Dual Curve Display

Given the iPhone 7 is shaping up to be a (controversial) disappointment, many are questioning how Apple will respond? Now the answer is becoming increasingly clear: in great style…

Following on from leaks that Apple will pull out all the stops for its 2017 iPhone with an ‘all glass’ design (since confirmed by a major Apple supplier), the Wow Factor has now been increased further by news it will also contain a ‘dual curve display’.

This would look akin to Samsung’s stunning Galaxy Edge smartphone range and tie into earlier reports about how the new iPhone will have an ‘Edgeless display’
Interestingly the source for this announcement is a good one: IHS Technology’s director of market research Kevin Wang who only last week revealed Apple will double iPhone 7 storage capacities. Something since corroborated by multiple reports.

Throw in the fact supply chains have shown for months that Apple is stockpiling OLED panels and it looks like the company will produce a ground-up redesign of the iPhone unlike anything users have seen before.

All glass iPhone??

Last month the world’s most accurate Apple tipster revealed the company is working on a radical ‘all glass’ new iPhone. The news was met with cynicism and excitement in equal measure, and now a major Apple supplier has confirmed it…

Speaking at its annual shareholder meeting Allen Horng, chairman and chief executive of long time iPhone chassis maker Catcher Technology , said Apple will make its 2017 iPhone using a glass casing.
The move is expected to go far beyond Apple’s previous glass backed iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S and rival Samsung’s recent Galaxy S and Note lines by using a single piece of glass for the whole exterior. Pull that off and Apple would certainly have a smartphone that looked like no other.
